Market Heading Into '99 With New All-Time High


Santa Monica, Calif., Dec. 29, 1998 (PRIMEZONE) -- The broad-based Wilshire 5000 Index reached an all-time high, ending the day with a value of 11,315.05. The Wilshire 5000 index, comprised of all US headquartered NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ stocks with readily available pricing information, is up 21.7 percent year-to-date.

"It looks like the market wants to ring in the New Year with a real bang," said Tom Stevens, Senior Vice President. "Internet stocks continue to propel the market, followed by mega-cap growth stocks."

Today's close brings the market's recovery since its October 8th low for 1998 to 31.3 percent.

The Wilshire 5000 index is up 24.1 percent from the same day last year, when the index had a value of 9,119.24 on December 29, 1997.
