Jaakko Pöyry Group appointed main engineering consultant for two papermill projects in USA


Marathon Engineers/Architects/Planners LLC, a Jaakko Pöyry Group company, based in Appleton, Wisconsin, USA has been appointed engineering consultant for Madison Paper Industries’ PM3 modernisation and for SP Newsprint’s DI Quality Project. The total value of these two contracts amounts to approx. EUR 7 million.

The Madison Paper Industries’ PM3 modernisation project in Madison, Maine, comprises complete detail engineering services for the wet end rebuild of this SC paper machine, including a new headbox, forming section, press section, and associated ancillary systems.

The engineering work for SP Newsprint’s DI Quality Project at their Newberg, Oregon mill, consists of a new 600 tons/day flotation deinking plant and upgrades of the two existing paper machines producing newsprint.

The majority of the engineering for these two projects will take place at the Marathon Design Center in Appleton, Wisconsin with advanced technology support from the Jaakko Pöyry Forest Industry Engineering organization in Helsinki, Finland.

Marathon is Jaakko Pöyry Group’s North American subsidiary belonging to the Group’s Forest Industry business group. Marathon was acquired in 1997 and the company employs some 120 people. Jaakko Pöyry Group intends to expand its office network in North America in the foreseeable future. This is part of the Group’s strategy to be able to serve its client’s locally.
