The Wall Street Transcript Publishes Analyst Comments in U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Conference Issue

NEW YORK, June 16, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- Thirteen leading analysts and top management from ninety-seven sector firms examine Investing Strategies in this special 364-page U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Conference Issue from The Wall Street Transcript (212/952-7433) or http://www.twst.com/info/info114.htm

1) Lifestyle Retailing - In an in-depth (3,700 words) Analyst Interview, Jeffrey Klinefelter, Senior Research Analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, explains the concept of lifestyle retailing, examines the outlook for the sector, and shares specific stock recommendations.

Highlighting The Limited (NYSE:LTD), Klinefelter says, "I think much of The Limited's success during the last 10 years has been its ability to recognize trends, recognize concepts that are satisfying those trends, and going after those trends via acquisitions and/or new prototypes. Aside from Intimate Brands driving their results, which they still own approximately 80% of as a corporation, their Express division has been driving significant results."

Klinefelter says, "We currently have a buy rating on bebe (Nasdaq:BEBE) stores. We really like the bebe brand, but the company has experienced a difficult top-line growth trend during the past few months. This is not a serious long-term concern for us, but we do believe it was a temporary loss of momentum."

Klinefelter states, "I think USA Networks (Nasdaq:USAI) is one that has been focused on the home shopping sector through their HSN division, but it is also very interested in the convergence of the media channels and facilitating commerce. I think they're very focused on commerce, and obviously with the USA Networks name to their corporate entity, they are very focused on using entertainment and content to facilitate contextual selling. So we think that it could be a very interesting play in this new sector."

Klinefelter asserts, "ValueVision (Nasdaq:VVTV) is the third player in the home shopping space, but they've been making a number of investments in lifestyle brands and lifestyle concepts, and they want to continue to use those to drive viewership on their television shows. We are encouraged by their motivation to use the home shopping channel to build brands and facilitate the sales of those branded products."
