Kemira Chemicals Oy’s subsidiary Kemira Kemi AB is establishing a Recycling Competence Centre (RCC) at the site in Helsingborg, Sweden. The initial organisation of RCC will consist of persons covering the areas chemistry, process technology and logistics. The new centre will, apart from the competence present within the company in both Finland and Sweden, utilise external competence by setting up contacts with universities and high schools.
The establishment of RCC is in line with Kemira Chemicals strategy to focus on recycling, water treatment chemicals and environmental chemicals.
“The Recycling Competence Centre is an establishment with a long-term perspective. The centre will develop recycling processes both for the chemicals we produce at the site today, but also develop new ones in other areas, for example for closing production processes in other industries”, says Dr. Olof Norrlöw, head of the new centre.
“The sludge recycling process KREPRO that separates different components e.g. aluminium, iron, phosphorus and heavy metals from drinking water and sewage sludge, is now over the development stage and is ready for marketing. The first full-scale KREPRO plant is to be taken into operation in Malmö, Sweden by the end of next year. With RCC we wish to broaden the recycling concept into other areas in order to even further strengthen our competitiveness and competence”, Dr. Norrlöw continues.
Kemira Chemicals is part of the Kemira Group. Its customers are municipal and industrial water treatment utilities, the pulp and paper industry and other industries. Net sales in 1999 were EUR 679 million. Kemira Chemicals has production in about 30 countries.
