Chief Parks to Accept New Motorola Communications System for LAPD


LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20, 2000 (PRIMEZONE) -- MEDIA ADVSIORY --


 WHAT:    LAPD Chief Bernard Parks will announce the Department is
          accepting a new system to enhance its wireless
          communications capabilities across the City's 465
          square-mile area. Media will be able to speak with
          representatives from Motorola and the LAPD to learn more
          about the sophisticated technology. An LAPD vehicle
          furnished with the new equipment will be available for
          viewing outside the auditorium. Motorola will be commended
          by the City for the upgrade completion of the mobile data
          terminal system, the second major component of the emergency
          command control communication system upgrade project
          initiated under Prop M.

 WHY:     Chief Parks recognizes the importance of having the LAPD
          operating on the most advanced technology to ensure safety
          in Los Angeles. The new system is one of the most powerful
          used by any public safety agency in the United States and
          allows immediate access to timely and sensitive information.
          The mobile data system played a crucial role in the safety
          infrastructure during the DNC.
