Nokia has introduced the Nokia CityHopper(TM) Broadband Wireless Access range of products, bringing the possibility of wireless high bandwidth services to the "last mile" connection for businesses and other multi-dwelling buildings.
The Nokia CityHopper solution was unveiled in the United States earlier this year and now it is available for the ETSI (European Telecoms Standards Institute) regions. Avoiding the time and expense of laying copper cables, Nokia CityHopper is easy and fast to deploy, allowing the rapid expansion of broadband service coverage for Operators and Service Providers.
Successful trials with the Nokia CityHopper system have already been completed with China Unicom in Guangdong Province.
“With Nokia CityHopper, customers can benefit from the rapid introduction of fast Internet access with high speed data and video services, as well as high quality voice services. All with a quality of service comparable to or exceeding traditional copper networks," said Juhani Hintikka, General Manager, Broadband Wireless Access, Nokia Networks. "Operators and Service Providers using Nokia CityHopper can be the first to launch services and achieve a fast return on investment. The trials have been proven to be successful, providing a new way to build networks according to the growing demand for high-speed Internet connectivity."
The Nokia CityHopper solution includes the Nokia CityHopper Base Station and Nokia CityHopper Customer Premises Equipment, as well as the Nokia Network Management System. It also includes a complementary range of services, including network planning deployment, support and training. Together with equipment and software, the Nokia CityHopper Broadband Wireless Access solution makes Nokia a ‘one-stop-shop’ for building rapid wireless broadband access.
Once a Nokia CityHopper network is deployed, it can be expanded rapidly to add new services or new customers, using simple network management system commands. Radios are simply ‘plug-and-play’ and are automatically configured by the base station. Nokia CityHopper can cater for the most demanding business users and Fast Internet and Local Area Network (LAN) interconnection can also be offered.
