Nokia today unveiled a new range of products and solutions for the evolution to 3G networks and Mobile Internet platforms at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The latest offerings from Nokia provide operators with cost effective network evolution and cutting-edge Mobile Internet resources for the 3G era.
Nokia aims to maximise operator and service provider revenues by offering seamless network evolution from 2G to 3G and fastest to market service platforms as well as enhancing business to business opportunities for application developers.
"Nokia's aim is to take the leadership position in providing mobile Internet platforms," said Niklas Savander, Vice President, Mobile Internet Applications, Nokia Networks, "As well as extensive and close cooperation with developers, partners and operators, Nokia provides end-to-end messaging solutions, enabling platforms, mobile entertainment platforms, mCommerce applications, location-based applications and billing solutions. "
Additionally, 3G applications and services will have widely variable requirements in terms of data speeds and bandwidths. The combination of high traffic levels and constantly variable demand can only be efficiently handled by evolving to All-IP.
Nokia is actively developing All-IP solutions for mobile networks and intends to be first in the market with commercial products. In Cannes Nokia demonstrates the world’s first 3G rich call based on the IP Multimedia subsystem with real Nokia All-IP core hardware.
With All-IP mobile operators can offer a much wider variety of end user services with richer interaction between different applications and media types. In addition, All-IP enables very cost-effective network configurations to be built.
"Nokia is a forerunner in All-IP providing the fastest path to true All-IP mobility networking," added Niklas Savander, "All-IP core network will provide telecom class reliability and scalability for IP based services. IP-RAN introduces a combined network for multiple radio interfaces and radio resource management solution to master that. Alongside IP, mobility is one of the main competencies that is needed for success in the Mobile Internet, and combining IP and mobility aspects is where Nokia has its greatest strength."
