Team Effort Events: The Spyder Cup 2001 -- Five Convertibles Top Prize at Paintball Tournament Memorial Day Weekend

PITTSBURGH, April 17, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Hundreds of 5-man teams will be shooting for the chance to drive away in not one, but five, new 2001 Mitsubishi convertibles at "The Spyder Cup 2001," a premier paintball event to be held Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 27, and 28, in Pittsburgh. More than $150,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top 5-player amateur teams, including the first place prize of five Mitsubishi Spyder Eclipses.

"The Spyder Cup 2001" is limited to amateur teams using only paintball markers from the Spyder series, made by Kingman International. Tournament play is scheduled for all three days with exhibition games by some of the Pittsburgh Steelers held Sunday afternoon. The final games will be taken out of the woods and played in spectator and media-friendly, netted arenas.

Team Effort Events, along with Kingman International, will co-produce the premier event. "After last year's success, we're looking for a record crowd both from competitors and spectators," said promoter Debra Dion Krischke of Team Effort Events. "Everyone that actually witnessed the five teenage boys win five convertibles last year was overwhelmed with the emotion of it all. It was an incredible moment and one that we hope to repeat again this year."

This Memorial Day weekend paintball event will also showcase the exhibition celebrity games by several Pittsburgh Steelers with a $10,000 check being donated to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

"The Spyder Cup 2001" event is the brainchild of Arthur Chang, founder and CEO of Kingman International and is open to the public. Quotes Arthur Chang, "We know from last year how much enthusiasm not only the prizes and cars, but also the Steelers brought to the event, and we look forward to another unforgettable weekend."

Adding to the large prize purse are many high-end items and electronics from corporate sponsors. Raven USA, a premium protective gear and apparel company in paintball, is also adding up to $22,500 in cash (see Note), plus other prizes.

(Note) See Website for further details.

All Spyder Cup prizes, including the cars, become the complete property of the winners ... free and clear.

More than 1,000 competitors from around the U.S., plus spectators, are expected to converge on the 70-acre Three Rivers Paintball site in Cranberry, Pa. located 25 minutes north of Pittsburgh for a Memorial Day Weekend to remember.
