SAN DIEGO, Jan. 3, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MXWL) announced today that its I-Bus/Phoenix subsidiary has launched the "FUZION" line of computing and power quality platforms to provide integrated, high reliability solutions for demanding applications in telecommunications, network infrastructure, broadcasting, medical equipment and industrial automation.
FUZION platforms are based on of an array of standard hardware and software building blocks that are integrated and assembled in multiple configurations to meet I-Bus/Phoenix's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers' specifications for systems supporting applications ranging from voice and data processing at end-user locations to wireless base stations and telecommunications central offices.
Those building blocks include both internally developed and third-party computer enclosures, single board computers, backplanes, power supplies and peripheral devices that, together with factory-loaded system software, comprise "application-ready" platforms that require only installation of application-specific hardware or software to be fully operational.
To satisfy the growing requirement for "five nines" (99.999 percent) system availability, which equates to five minutes or less of downtime per year, many FUZION enclosures are front-accessible with "hot-swappable" components that can be removed and replaced without shutting down the system. Optional power conditioning features and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with power management software also are available to ensure continuous operation in the event of power disturbances or interruptions.
The FUZION launch initially includes more than a dozen computing platforms based on ISA/PCI and CompactPCI bus architectures. Computing platforms designed for enterprise environments -- at end-user premises -- are designated eFUZION. Platforms for telecommunications central offices, network core installations and similar environments are designated nFUZION. Power products are designated pFUZION.
With the implementation of a global supply chain management system and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities now fully operational in the United States and United Kingdom, I-Bus/Phoenix promises worldwide delivery within 10 working days for ISA/PCI-based FUZION platforms, and delivery within 30 working days for CompactPCI-based platforms. Complete product descriptions and specifications are available at the I-Bus/Phoenix web site: www.ibus.com.
"The FUZION product line itself, and our ability to deliver these platforms globally with unprecedented speed and efficiency, demonstrate I-Bus/Phoenix's capabilities as a designer and supplier of leading-edge applied computing and power quality solutions," said John Werderman, division president. "In addition to these initial platforms, we will be introducing more new FUZION products each month through the first quarter."
