STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 28, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sigma has received an assignment from Swisscom Mobile AG to establish a new unit designated "Network Environment." This unit coordinates all activities related to the Swiss regulation for protection against non- ionising radiation (NISV).
"Sigma IT-Solutions AG has provided us with qualified consultants in a quick and uncomplicated manner. Considering first results, Sigma is contributing to the design of the new unit in a very valuable way," says Salvatore Allegrezza, head of Network Operations at Swisscom.
The increasing demand for services in the field of mobile telecommunications requires a steady extension of the network infrastructure. There is a dilemma with regard to the anxieties of the population due to electromagnetic radiation and the demand for efficient mobile phone services. In this context, the Swiss regulation (NISV) stipulates the world's most stringent limiting values for electromagnetic radiation from installations for mobile phones. The new Network Environment unit at Swisscom Mobile AG is being established to coordinate submissions of antenna constructions and the implementation of organizational and operational requirements resulting from compliance with the NISV specifications.
Within the framework of this activity, Sigma IT-Solutions AG is assuming operative leadership for teams in the German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland. Other tasks related to building up the new unit, require a pre-analysis of business processes and corresponding interfaces. On this basis, Sigma is preparing detailed specifications for processes and their related documentation. Those documents are also required for re-certification according to the ISO 9001 Norm 2000. One of the first results of Sigma's efforts was the recent approval of this re-certification.
Commenting on the assignment, Walter Weiss, Managing Director of Sigma IT-Solutions AG, said: "This project with Swisscom Mobile AG is a further example of our competence in the field of telecommunication and management consulting. We focus on quality and cost efficiency and pass these advantages to Swisscom Mobile AG."
