LINKOPING, Sweden, March 27, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded Saab Training Systems, Huskvarna, Sweden, a contract to support the existing Direct Fire Weapon Effects Simulators (DFWES) used at Salisbury Plain, UK, at British Army Training Unit Suffield, Canada and at Sennelager, Germany. The contract value is approximately MSEK 628 (MGBP 42,5).
"We see this contract award as the result of seven years of excellent past performance and the partnering spirit between Saab and MoD." said Johan Ohlson, president of Saab Training Systems.
This latest contract, starting on April 1, 2002, comprises a turn-key arrangement at a firm price from Saab Training Systems where full responsibility is taken to ensure that the equipment is available at all times for a period of 8 years. It has built-in mechanisms for phasing in known and unknown platforms and applications which may increase the contract value.
The DFWES equipments, based on Saab BT46 laser simulators, were delivered by Saab Training Systems between 1994 and 2001 and Saab has been responsible for their on-site support since 1995.
The MoD, using innovative ideas, further increases the training value by improving availability and decreasing costs by issuing this long-term contract with substantial savings and built-in incentives for Saab Training Systems to reduce costs and spend-to-save when appropriate.
The DFWES systems have allowed the British Army to increase military Force and Unit operational combat effectiveness, increase training effectiveness of combat maneuvers and increase personnel skills, motivation, and confidence. They are built on the world wide recognised high fidelity BT 46 equipment delivered by Saab Training Systems to many countries.
Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration.
