Nokia Security Appliance Customers to Benefit From Developers Alliance Program

Mountain View, CA – (June 27, 2002) – Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced its new Security Developers Alliance program that will enable integrated security applications to meet specific enterprise and service provider requirements. The Alliance is comprised of a select group of third party software companies who have met Nokia’s certification standards in order to receive its “Nokia OK” validation to interoperate with Nokia’s line of IP security appliances. Customers will now have the freedom to surround Nokia’s successful line of firewall, VPN, and IDS appliances with additional security applications, tools, and management agents.

Beyond Nokia’s primary strategic partners Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKP), F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV) and Internet Security Systems (ISS) (Nasdaq: ISSX), initial Alliance developers will offer a variety of security solutions, including content filtering, data integrity assurance, network monitoring and management. Currently, BMC Software, Concord Communications, FishNet, HP OpenView, Open (OpenService, Inc.), Permeo, SurfControl, and Tripwire are in the final stages of Nokia OK validation.

“Nokia has clearly established itself as a leader in the Internet security space,” said W. Wyatt Starnes, founder, president and CEO of Tripwire. “Through the Security Developer Alliance Program, customers will be able to safely enable additional value added security elements such as Tripwire’s popular Data Integrity Assurance software, which is highly recommended as a Best Practice and has been featured in the National Security Administration's "60 Minute Security Guide."

“Internet security infrastructure, has become a critical component of our customers’ overall network architecture,” said Dan MacDonald, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. “Customers are looking to leverage the proven Nokia security platform for additional security applications as well as tightly integrate their chosen network management and monitoring tools and agents in order to streamline the management of their security solutions. This focused program has been designed to enable that need, without compromising system security, reliability, or performance.”

“The Internet and e-mail are the most important communication tools used to conduct business today, making network security and inappropriate usage of the Internet bigger concerns than ever before,” said Kevin Blakeman, president of SurfControl’s US operation. “Our customers and prospects will be excited to learn that SurfControl Web Filter is now compatible with Nokia’s market leading security appliance platform.”

"HP welcomes the opportunity to participate in Nokia's Security Developers Alliance program.  This program has been an important element in the development of HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins for managing Nokia Firewall and VPN security appliances," said Patty Azzarello, VP and general manager, HP OpenView Business Unit.  "By contributing to the Nokia Security Developers Alliance, we will provide our customers with the latest security solutions as part of our service-driven management software and solutions."

Nokia Security Developers Alliance members will have access to Nokia’s Software Development Kit (SDK) for Nokia’s secure Operating System (IPSO), providing the opportunity to port their products to Nokia’s security appliances. The porting process will deliver a truly interoperable solution offering rapid deployment, ease of configuration, and the highest level of performance and availability.

The Nokia Security Developers Alliance leverages the flexibility of Nokia’s appliance technology, allowing interoperable solutions to operate on- or off-appliance depending on the specific application. This satisfies a wide range of customer use and implementation scenarios and reduces the complexity of alternative solutions with multiple applications operating on multiple systems across several locations.

Prospective developers that are invited by Nokia to become Security Alliance members submit their products to Nokia labs for interoperability testing and evaluation prior to receiving Nokia OK approval — the mark of interoperability.  The Nokia OK stamp of approval enables customers to identify and deploy third party security solutions that add new dimensions to their existing Nokia appliances with the confidence that they’ve been evaluated and approved by Nokia.

“As Nokia’s primary security application partner, Check Point, is excited to see Nokia launch the Security Developers Alliance program,” said Asheem Chandna, Vice President of Business Development and Product Management, Check Point Software Technologies. “Customers will be able to now deploy Check Point OPSEC Certified security applications integrated with our market-leading VPN-1/FireWall-1 directly on Nokia’s security appliance product line.”
