Hansen and the City of Philadelphia Team to Showcase the Benefits of Informational Technology Used for Strategic Initiatives

PHILADELPHIA and SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The City of Philadelphia announced the opening of the Philadelphia Technology Showcase which is presented by Hansen Information Technologies, the provider of a frictionless framework for e-government. The Technology Showcase is being held in the Grand Hall of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This one-day, free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, and is open to the public. Visitors can see how Mayor John F. Street's vision for information technology is improving City services and how Hansen's Frictionless Framework for government operations will pave the way to increased efficiencies and higher citizen satisfaction.

Visitors to the Technology Showcase will be among the first to see the wireless technology the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) inspectors will use to document property inspections, reducing to minutes a process that formerly took weeks. L&I administers and enforces the City's code requirements and regulates the conduct of businesses and persons by conducting inspections, issuing licenses, and enforcing applicable codes and regulations. To get this job done, City inspectors are on the street daily conducting property inspections. Using Hansen's Community Development and Regulations (CDR) solutions with Hansen Mobile Solution, an inspector can be directed to a property, document the inspection and then relay the results to the L&I office. There, the inspection is documented and, if necessary, a citation is immediately generated and mailed.

"Mayor John F. Street's vision for information technology has come to life with powerful Internet-based eGovernment tools and wireless technology. As all inspectors come on-line," said Edward McLaughlin, Commissioner, Department of Licenses and Inspections. "Hansen's CDR and mobile solutions will streamline the process, save the City money, time and manpower while generating a more complete picture of the City's land parcels."

L&I and Hansen are also working together to launch an Internet portal where citizens can apply for permits, engage the department or check the status of an existing transaction on-line. "I believe one of Hansen's strengths is working closely with our customers to ensure our framework and solutions meets their strategic needs and streamline their processes," said Chuck Hansen, President and CEO of Hansen Information Technologies. "We are honored to be a part of Mayor Street's vision to develop solutions that make Philadelphia neighborhoods vibrant, exciting and desirable communities."
