PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Dec. 17, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Kids naturally have fun in the winter and what could be a better place than at the Blue Cross RiverRink for KIDS FEST! The Independence Blue Cross Sixth Annual KIDS FEST will take place on Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5, 2003 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Blue Cross RiverRink on Festival Pier at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street.
KIDS FEST is filled with fun and great music. The festival will feature exciting, live musical performances by Steve Pullara and his Cool Beans Band on Saturday, January 4 from 2-4 p.m. and Girls from Mars on Sunday, January 5 from 2-4 p.m. A special attraction is Kathy O'Connell, host of WXPN-FM's Kids Corner, who will make an appearance on Sunday January 5th to introduce Girls from Mars. Adding to the entertainment are free activities including: face painting, make and take crafts, caricatures, and balloon artistry.
Steve Pullara and his Cool Beans Band provide a high-energy performance of upbeat, traditional, and original songs for children. Girls from Mars a trio of women who swing into the season with jumpin' jive harmonies and boppin' swing music from the 1930s and 1940s -- perfect for the entire family.
Representatives from Seussical the Musical will be on-hand both days of the event from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. to add to the festivities. Visitors will have the chance to win CDs samplers, tickets to the show, and everyone's favorite, a Dr. Seuss hat. Seussical the Musical explores the witty, wild and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss as you've never seen it before.
Travel back to your childhood to the land of the Who's and the Jungle of Nool and re-discover the delightfully zany characters created by one of the most beloved storytellers of all time. Seussical the Musical plays at the Merriam Theater for eight performances, Tuesday, January 14 through Sunday, January 19, 2003.
KIDS FEST activities are free to the public. Skating sessions cost $6 per person and are available during KIDS FEST from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Public Skating Sessions are as follows: Mondays through Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.; Sundays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Skate to a live DJ every Friday and Saturday Night from 9:00 p.m. to 12 midnight with a late night skating session from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m.
Special holiday skating sessions are available from December 23, 2002 through January 1, 2003 as well as on January 20, 2003 and February 18, 2002. The Holiday Skating Session Times as are follows: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. (Fridays and Saturdays.)
