Hilton Chef Competes in World Ice Carving Championships

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Peter Sorwing, Chef at Hilton Stockholm Slussen will represent Sweden in the World Ice Carving Championships to be held in Brussels this Christmas.

While everyone else is having Christmas dinner this year, Peter Sorwing, Chef de Patisserie at Hilton Stockholm Slussen will be flying to Belgium to compete against the Worlds best carvers of ice sculptures.

Peter has been carving ice sculptures for 7 years and became interested after working with glass as a child. This creative streak continued in his choice of career as a pastry chef. He says that it was a natural progression from his job creating patisserie and chocolate work to something a bit larger, colder and more challenging. Peter studied the art in Japan, whose teachers are generally accepted as the best in the world, and has quickly established a reputation as one of Sweden's finest ice sculpturs. He is today able to name the President of the United States, Nobel Prize Winners and the heads of the European Union in his long list of clients.

"I am delighted to be invited to the World Championships," said Peter, "to have the honour to compete with some of the best is a real privilege and although I may not start as favourite, I have a few ideas which might win over the judges."

Peter joined the hotel just before its launch in February as the first Hilton Hotel in Sweden. Craig Gardner, General Manager of Hilton Stockholm Slussen commented: "Everyone at the hotel is delighted for Peter and wish him every success. He is a huge asset to the hotel and our guests always remark on his fantastic creations, his art really makes a memorable impression as part of a banquet or conference."
