OLSO, Norway, Jan. 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Petroleum Geo-Services ASA ("PGS") (NYSE:PGO) (Oslo:PGS) today announced that PGS, in cooperation with the government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG), is pleased to announce the Gulf of Oman, Blocks 18A, 18B and 41 License Round, 2003. This is part of an Exclusive Seismic Survey and Reprocessing agreement between PGS Geophysical AS and the Ministry of Oil and Gas Oman to assist with the license applications for Blocks 18A, 18B and 41.
This license round will open on January 15 and close on July 15. It will comprise of 3 blocks, 18A, 18B and 41, situated in the Gulf of Oman. In total the blocks cover an area of 45,240 sq km's. The block sizes are 7 920 sq km's, 13,520 sq km's and 23,800 sq km's respectively.
The 3 blocks have been selected after interpretation of the new GO2002 2D survey acquired by PGS Geophysical AS. The GO20002 survey comprises of 5839 line-km's with additionally 2738 line-km's of reprocessed data, both available from water depths of 50-3,000 meters. All seismic data will be made available in two data packages.
Closures are of the order of tens to hundreds of square kilometers and reservoirs are potentially stacked in growth-fault roll-over anticlines and collapsed-crest listric fault blocks. Diapir flanks and flower structures provide additional structural closures. Stratigraphic pinchouts are additionally evident in seismic sections.
