VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Destiny Media Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:DSNY) (DME 935 410) is pleased to announce the official launch of the MPE secure media distribution system. The five major record labels, various independent music groups and select radio stations in Canada and the USA have been testing the system for four months.
The initial rollout began on October 10th. Within the first week, over 200 radio stations had signed up for the service and forty new and current titles were available for download to both radio stations and trusted users. Some of the tracks available on their official label release date include Addicted by Enrique Iglesias, All In The Suit That You Wear by Stone Temple Pilots and Reviens (ou te caches-tu) by Garou. Other new and high priority tracks are being added daily to the MPE system.
When songs are encoded into the MPE format, a Clipstream(tm) powered email announcement is automatically generated which provides a playerless preview of the song within the email. If the recipient chooses to download, full real time reporting is provided back to the labels.
The MPE system is unique in that not only is the receiving user authenticated, but the content is also locked down to the "fingerprint" of the destination computer with extremely high security 128 bit encryption. If the recipient has been provided with export rights, they can burn the song to CD, but a digital watermark is added to the song that identifies that user if an unauthorized copy is discovered. The song can be locked down to a particular release date, providing a maximum marketing impact for the labels.
The MPE system provides a much higher quality output than systems using an MP3 of the same size as it uses a variable bit rate technology. As the song becomes "hotter" with more dynamic range, more bits are allocated. In simpler parts of the song, fewer bits are required. MPE is a highly secure, broadcast quality, professional format.
Scott Studios / Computer Concepts, the leading and largest studio equipment provider to radio with more than 4500 client stations in North America has built support for MPE into their SS32 product and are in the process of building the technology into their Maestro product. This will provide radio with unparalleled convenience as the song can move directly into these products for broadcast purposes.
Scott Studio's CEO, Dave Scott said, "We are excited to be working closely with the various labels and our great radio stations in Canada, to have Scott and Computer Concepts' equipment comply with the record companies' desires through MPE. The leaking of music by computers is a serious concern and if the music industry wants songs to be encrypted so they can't be copied, we're happy to cooperate and make it as easy as possible for radio stations to comply. By working with Promo Only Canada and Destiny Media Technologies, we have been able to provide a solution that answers the security concerns, yet keeps audio quality very high. The MPE system is the only answer we support."
The MPE system can be used not only by radio stations and internally by the label, but industry trade magazines, newspapers and recording studios can also take advantage of the system. MPE is the new secure media distribution standard.
