NCC receives order from Botniabanan to build tunnel in Ornskoldsvik for SEK 201 million

SOLNA, Sweden, Nov. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- NCC has received an additional order from Botniabanan AB. The latest order, which is for the construction of a railway tunnel through the Asberget mountain in central Ornskoldsvik, is worth SEK 201 million. In October, NCC was commissioned to construct a new station area and a new ski-jumping hill in Ornskoldsvik.

The latest assignment comprises construction of a 1,000-meter-long railway tunnel for single-track traffic, including a 400-meter-long service tunnel, through Asberget in central Ornskoldsvik. The assignment also includes construction of approximately 5 kilometers of railway terracing between Asberget and Arnasval, north of Ornskoldsvik, as well as bridges over the railway, a portal for a pedestrian and cycle path and a railway bridge over the pedestrian and cycle path.

Work will commence at the beginning of December and the project is scheduled for completion in July 2005.

"We are proud to have been entrusted by Botniabanan to undertake this assignment and look forward to continued successful cooperation with the company. Receiving an order of this size is particularly satisfying because it will make a further contribution to efforts to secure employment in the area. The fact that the project will be built in an urban environment close to an industrial park, with all that this entails in terms of cooperation, is regarded as a positive, major challenge," says Roger Ekman, Department Manager at NCC Construction Sweden in Umea.
