MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany, and MAHWAH, N.J., Dec. 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- ADVA Optical Networking (FSE:ADV), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today launched a new set of optical transceiver and amplifier modules for its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 carrier-class metro infrastructure solution. These new modules deliver higher tolerance for impairment, greater dispersion load, and higher gain; thereby extending the system's reach capability to 500 kilometers in metro regional networks without regeneration.
ADVA's FSP 3000, a metro system based on Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, offers a low upfront investment with a "pay-as-you-grow" cost structure and a broad range of interfaces, including Local Area Network (LAN), Storage Area Network (SAN), and Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) services. The FSP 3000 additionally provides quick and easy provisioning, a variety of architectures, simple planning tools, and robust operation. Carriers now have a strong and compelling alternative to the long-haul systems traditionally deployed for metro regional applications with ADVA's FSP 3000, and can benefit to a greater extent from the system's unique value proposition.
"Carriers are increasing deployments in their metro WDM networks, and in particular to address regional applications," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research. "This is being driven by a variety of factors, including growing CAPEX spending by carriers, fiber exhaust, new build-out in emerging countries, and higher-bandwidth content additions to service offerings by mobile operators. The ADVA FSP 3000 is a proven platform, and these new feature enhancements extend its range past the metro into regional applications."
Brian P. McCann, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at ADVA, commented, "The FSP 3000 has continued to grow its feature set and expand its addressable applications to include LAN, SAN, wavelength services, network infrastructure, and now metro regional. We have already successfully deployed several metro regional networks in Europe, including a 430 kilometer link for SDH traffic and a nationwide research network of 2,600 kilometers for 10 Gigabit Ethernet traffic. This latest feature enhancement makes the FSP 3000 even more competitive in today's marketplace and represents a very compelling alternative to long-haul platforms in metro regional applications."
The FSP 3000 employs parallel use of DWDM and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technology to enable all protocols between 8Mbit/s and 10Gbit/s and up to 256 applications with a total capacity of 640Gbit/s to be transported over one single fiber pair. The system's design supports point-to-point, linear add/drop, ring, and meshed network topologies of up to 10 nodes across distances up to 500 kilometers without regeneration. A Slimline chassis version was launched in early 2003 as a feeder solution to transport limited numbers of high-bandwidth applications. More information about the FSP 3000 and key applications can be found on ADVA's web site, www.advaoptical.com.
The new FSP 3000 modules for metro regional network applications will be released for general availability in volume shipment in the first quarter 2004.
