CDMA Community Advances International Roaming Capabilities

More Than 80 Carriers and Vendors Gathered to Discuss Roaming Opportunities During CDMA Global Roaming Symposium

COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec. 29, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG), in conjunction with the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication, hosted the third annual CDMA Global Roaming Symposium (CGR) in Miami. This year's symposium was attended by 46 companies, including 20 carriers from Asia, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Participants discussed roaming advancements on CDMA networks and outlined the roadmap for providing seamless delivery of voice and data services across all continents and technologies.

Currently there are more than 160 existing roaming agreements between CDMA operators across all continents, with additional agreements expected soon. The CDMA industry has already established the implementation guidelines for internetworking, billing and testing to enable a service provider to quickly deploy international roaming services for their customers. The main focus of the industry efforts now are inter-standard roaming, MMS and packet-data roaming and fraud management.

"The CDMA industry is spearheading the effort to provide inter-standard and packet-data roaming capabilities to further expand services without boundaries," said Perry LaForge, executive director for the CDG. "We are bridging the gap between different numbering schemes, different billing and signaling systems and different network elements to give CDMA subscribers greater roaming freedom."

The 2004 CDMA Global Roaming Symposium will be held in conjunction with the 3G World Congress scheduled for November 15-19, 2004 in Hong Kong.
