Semotus Solutions Teams with Enterprise Management Systems to Provide a Wireless Alert System for Melbourne Airport

OpenLinkXS Mobile Communications Software Deployed at Australia's Second Largest Airport

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Semotus Solutions (AMEX:DLK), a leading provider of software for mobile enterprise applications, announced today that Enterprise Management Solutions (EMS) has installed OpenLinkXS Wireless Communications software in Melbourne Airport's mobile infrastructure to provide IT personnel with SMS messages of critical network events. EMS is a member of Semotus' VAR program and the largest HP OpenView implementation partner in Australia.

OpenLinkXS is integrated with the Airport's HP Network Node Manager(tm) system; Airport technology employees can now be notified anywhere at anytime of pending issues in their IT infrastructure. OpenLinkXS takes events generated in OpenView(tm) and automatically sends SMS-based notifications via a GSM modem to mobile phones using a defined escalation process. If support personnel fail to acknowledge the received SMS notifications (by return SMS), the next person in the escalation process is notified. OpenLinkXS also has a web interface that allows administrators to manually send SMS alerts.

EMS was commissioned by Melbourne Airport to undertake the project to improve the notification of system and network outages to key personnel in order to achieve faster problem-resolution times. "This was important due to the critical nature and high-availability requirements of the systems we support," explained Mr. Peter Loosley, Melbourne Airport Infrastructure Manager.

"EMS has found that Semotus' wireless communications products serve a real need on the part of our customers to have 24-hour access to their networks, and additionally, to provide quick event resolution capabilities," said Paul Heath, Director of EMS.

EMS is the largest HP OpenView implementation partner in Australasia, and specializes in IT Service Management based on ITIL standards. EMS is part of the TUSC Group, which provides infrastructure management solutions to enterprises with mission-critical networks.

"We were very pleased with the outcome of the project as we were able to retain and derive more value from our original investment in HP OpenView," continued Mr. Loosley.

"Undoubtedly, EMS is one of our top resellers for several reasons, including their knowledge of the latest technology products and the expertise with which they serve their customers' complex network management needs," stated Pamela LaPine, Semotus Executive Vice President. "They quickly recognized that Semotus' wireless communications software was a valuable component to the upgrade of their customers' mobile notification and response systems. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with EMS, and helping them to achieve their goals of unsurpassed customer satisfaction and service."
