Digital pen enabling Anoto functionality documents Anna Lindh trial

LUND, Sweden, Jan. 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A digital pen with Anoto functionality is being used by TV4 Plus during the present trial into the killing of foreign minister Anna Lindh. Neither filming nor photographing is allowed in the courtroom. Digital pens enabling Anoto functionality are therefore used to bring developments home during the proceedings.

Sketches are made by means of the digital pen on digital paper with Anoto functionality, (ordinary paper with a proprietary pattern of very small dots), and are thereafter transmitted using Bluetooth technology directly from the pen to a computer outside the courtroom. Using Anoto functionality allows TV4 Plus to generate stills and films where sketches are developing concurrently with the movements of the illustrator's movement without the illustrator having to leave the courtroom.

"We have great use of digital pens during the trial since we are not allowed to make films and in certain cases not to broadcast sound. In addition they are easy to use," says Cecilia Wagner, project leader for TV4 Plus' broadcast from the trial.

"The fact that TV4 that has chosen to use the digital pen to make sketches during the proceedings is a good and practical example of how digital pens may be utilised in situations where being able to, quickly and efficiently follow the course of events on the spot is of great advantage," says Charlotte Laveson, manager of PR and Information, Anoto Group.

Nokia Digital Pen is available on the Swedish retail market since the end of last year. Sony Ericsson's Chatpen and Logitech's io Personal Digital Pen are other examples of pens powered with Anoto functionality.
