PA Chamber: Economic Development Plans Should Complement Sound Business Structure

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry commended the governor, administration and General Assembly for reaching an apparent agreement on an economic stimulus package.

"The PA Chamber supports the economic development initiatives recently advanced by the General Assembly and commends the governor, his administration and the legislature for working diligently to address concerns and iron out differences," said Jim Welty, PA Chamber vice president of Legislative and Corporate Affairs. "We understand and appreciate the amount of effort put in to developing the proposal."

"These new programs are just a beginning," Welty added. "We believe long-range structural changes are necessary to improve Pennsylvania's competitive position in the nation and on a global basis.

"The business community applauds the effort of the administration and the General Assembly to bolster economic growth in the Commonwealth. We look forward to working with them to further improve our business climate."
