STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Pointsec Mobile Technologies, a subsidiary of IT security company Protect Data and a global leader in mobile enterprise security, and Fujitsu Services Oy, a provider of advanced IT services and product solutions in Finland, have signed an agreement: Fujitsu will protect its customers' desktops, laptops, PDAs and smartphones using Pointsec solutions.
As a provider of IT outsourcing services, Fujitsu needs a product that secures and protects the data stored on all mobile devices. The solution needs to be easy-to-use and transparent to the users.
"After a long search, we chose Pointsec's products which suit our service offering perfectly. Today, they play an important role in improving the overall security of our IT services, particularly when systems are accessed remotely", said Mari Alho, product manager at Fujitsu. "If a computer containing confidential information gets lost or is stolen, the information is at risk of ending up in the wrong hands; this would probably mean serious losses for the organization."
"In these situations, the fee added to our outsourcing package for extra security coverage is a very small price to pay," Alho pointed out.
With Pointsec products installed, computing devices including smartphones, PDAs and laptops are protected so that the device and the data it stores can only be accessed by an authenticated user.
"Mobile data protection is becoming more and more important. Organizations may not have sufficient resources to handle all the facets of their IT systems' security; this is why it is important to have service providers, who can. We are sure that this will become a prevailing trend in a growing number of companies. We are very pleased to be working in this area with Fujitsu," said Thomas Bill, CEO of Protect Data AB.
Pointsec's access control and encryption solutions can be used on all major operating systems, including Symbian OS.
Other organizations across the globe that use Pointsec products include the U.S. IRS (Internal Revenue Service), Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, the U.S. Justice Department, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, AstraZeneca, Cisco, Ericsson and Telia.
