MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany and MAHWAH, N.J., June 14, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- ADVA Optical Networking and Siemens today announced that EVN, an Austrian utility and energy service provider, has deployed a combination of ADVA Fiber Service Platform (FSP) solutions to begin offering its customers Ethernet and storage services. Deployment of ADVA's FSP 3000, FSP 2000 and FSP 500 optical systems is a key step in EVN's transformation into a multi-service utility.
EVN has traditionally provided its customers with power, gas, heat, water, and a range of utility-related services. The company is widening its offering to include affordable Ethernet services designed for businesses using bandwidth-intensive Internet and intranet applications, as well as storage services offering customers a means to back up and mirror mission-critical company data and rapidly restore data in the wake of catastrophic outages.
"Ethernet and data-backup services are in high demand in today's security-aware, broadband-hungry market," said Mr. Bauer with EVN. "We decided in favor of ADVA's optical platform because it ensures us high scalability as we move forward and offers transparent transmission at native data rates, Ethernet and data backup, high speed, and an excellent price/performance ratio. At the same time, thanks to ADVA's sales partnership with Siemens, we can count on rapid implementation and servicing from a single source. We're planning to roll out additional network services in the future."
Added Brian P. McCann, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer of ADVA Optical Networking, "By investing in its own high-performance network, EVN has successfully positioned itself in Austria as a customer-focused infrastructure provider. Ethernet will emerge as the most important service in metropolitan and wide-area networks based on high-bandwidth, highly scalable optical networks, and enterprises remain eager to adopt sophisticated storage strategies. ADVA and Siemens are uniquely positioned to enable a variety of network operators capitalize on these market opportunities."
ADVA's FSP 3000 provides EVN with a high-capacity infrastructure backbone that supports the traffic generated by all of its customers' Ethernet and data-backup services. The FSP 2000, certified by all leading storage manufacturers, is being used by EVN specifically to support its data-mirroring, disaster-recovery and business-continuity offerings. EVN is relying on the FSP 500 to cost-effectively introduce Ethernet services to customers and to relieve fiber exhaust in some areas of its network infrastructure.
