Vertex Interactive Announces New Event Management Engine

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., July 6, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Vertex Interactive Inc. (OTCBB:VETX), a provider of software technology for order and fulfillment warehouse management, announced the release of its eWMS warehouse management solution, Release 4.0, which incorporates its new Spontaneous Event Engine or the SEE product. The next level of warehouse efficiency is attained by a flexible, dynamic, user-configurable system for defining events and the results to them. Events include, among other things, purchase order changes, pricing errors, inventory shortages, and machine breakdowns. Users can use the engine to set up warehouse-specific events that occur in their distribution centers.

Any data stored in the database can be used as the basis for an event which, if triggered, will automatically manage the event with the response desired by the user. An SQL based interface is used to define the trigger for an event. Message composition tools are used to define the responses to the events and the intended recipients. The system is delivered with ten pre-built events and five optional additional events. The delivered events center around notifications through various methods when changes, adjustments or discrepancies are triggered.

Bob Schilt, Vertex's Chief Technical Officer, explained, "This is a must-have product for most companies with distribution operations. We believe that by embedding this functionality in the warehouse management system we have created a unique product with functionality where it is needed -- on the warehouse floor where these events occur. For example, the system can manage changes in a purchase order from a customer. If desired, the system will automatically notify the warehouse manager for order picking and dock scheduling; procurement, if required, to adjust purchasing appropriately; and it can further notify transportation to alter the means of transport as necessary. In this manner each function affected by the event can become aware of and can address the change appropriately in real time at the moment the event is triggered."
