MALMO, Sweden, July 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Telelogic (Stockholm Exchange: TLOG), the leading global provider of solutions for advanced systems and software development, today announced the availability of Telelogic TAU(R)/Logiscope(TM) 6.1. The latest version of TAU/Logiscope includes a number of powerful enhancements to boost productivity early in the development process and specifically the quality of C, C++, Ada, and Java code. The tool is designed to automate activities associated with software quality assurance, check software under development against corporate or industry rules and standards, analyze the software code for error-prone sections, provide measurements of test coverage, as well as improve the quality and maintainability of legacy software. Today, TAU/Logiscope is used by more than 21,000 software developers and quality assurance managers worldwide.
"While thorough testing is a cornerstone of developing quality software applications, too often it is seen as overly expensive and time consuming," said Ingemar Ljungdahl, chief technology officer at Telelogic. "The cost of quality can be significantly reduced by automated analysis of source code, during its development, to identify potential problem areas earlier in the coding phase. The new features contained in the latest release of TAU/Logiscope make it even easier and more cost-effective for organizations to check quality early and check often."
"Reducing costs and eliminating errors early in the development process are key to producing high-quality products and minimizing time-to-market," said Jim Duggan, vice president and research area director at Gartner. "Still today, at least 70 to 80 percent of bespoke and packaged software is developed and maintained by hand. These development projects need advanced tools that can ensure quality standards are maintained and enhanced by locating and fixing problems early in the coding phase."
Telelogic TAU/Logiscope 6.1 EnhancementsThe following key capabilities enable software developers and quality assurance (QA) teams to compare code quality against best practice rules, determine completeness of code coverage, and check that code can be easily maintained:
- "Smart" Incremental Analysis -- Only the code that has been changed is re-analyzed, accelerating the checking process by up to 95 percent. Now software developers can check their own code as part of the development process and catch problems early in development. This results in time and cost savings that translate into higher quality software products being delivered to market faster.
- Improved Batch Processing -- Batch processing for all types of software checking is now supported for C, C++, Java and Ada, including coding rules, test coverage, and maintainability. This enhancement enables automated quality assurance to be integrated with change/configuration management tools, such as Telelogic SYNERGY(TM), so that quality checks can be made part of the build process. As a result, TAU/Logiscope enforces that checks are made and only the highest quality source code is used in a software release.
- Improved Build Procedure -- The build process has been enhanced in version 6.1 so customized behavior can be easily added to the build process.
Version 6.1 builds upon the proven key benefits of TAU/Logiscope:
- Increased efficiency of developer and QA resources -- TAU/Logiscope frees up valuable developer and QA time by automating code reviews of C, C++, Java and Ada source code, and, using quality metrics and rules, detecting error-prone modules early in the software development process. Not only does it tell users where the problems are but also provides recommendations of how to remedy them.
- Improved control of software complexity -- TAU/Logiscope provides many means to view and analyze software code graphically. Easy-to-understand visual representations such as call graphs, control graphs and inheritance graphs provide a clear view of the architecture, structure and behavior of the system, and make it easy to identify and solve complex problems, leading to improved quality in the final product.
- Optimized test process -- TAU/Logiscope helps testers identify inefficient or redundant tests by monitoring execution of code to find sections that are not covered by test cases and sequences applied against that code. TAU/Logiscope uses a source code instrumentation technology that is adaptable to the constraints of the existing test environment.
- Automated assessment of compliance with quality standards -- TAU/Logiscope enables organizations to objectively measure the quality of source code for compliance with industry standards including ISO/IEC 9126, ISO 9000, DO-178B and MISRA, and to easily identify compliant and non-compliant code modules.
Availability and Platform Support
Telelogic TAU/Logiscope is available now on Microsoft Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Sun Solaris 2.6 (and above) and supports quality assurance for the languages C, C++, Java and Ada.
