BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 5, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sunwin International Neutraceuticals, Inc. (OTCBB:SUWN), an industry leader in the distribution and manufacture of Chinese herbs, veterinary medicines and low calorie natural sweetener (beet sugar) in China, announced today it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Tomen Corporation, a Japanese firm, to export natural sweetener (beet sugar) to Japan. Under the agreement, Tomen Corporation will import Sunwin's natural sweetener (beet sugar) in bulk and perform purification in Japan. Further, both firms will form a joint venture in China to produce and purify beet sugar in China.
Stevioside (beet sugar), a natural sweetener, is extracted from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant, as a food additive which is used in various products such as beverages, pastries, dairy products, candies, confections, and medicinal products. Stevioside is approximately 200 to 300 times sweeter than general sucrose, but it has only 1/300th of the calories and it is often referred to as the third generation of natural low calorie sweeteners.
Japan is a primary global consumer of low calorie natural sweetener (beet sugar). Every year, Japan consumes approximately 50% of the global production of beet sugar. 80% of sweetener, combining both synthetic sweetener and regular sugar consumed by Japanese, is low calorie natural sweetener (beet sugar). This agreement will allow Sunwin to become a major producer of beet sugar for Japan.
Baozhong Yuan, CEO of Sunwin International, commented, "This agreement will enhance Sunwins leading position in the production of low calorie natural sweetener (beet sugar) in the world. We believe production of low calorie natural sweetener (beet sugar) will be a major profit center for years to come. The company has plans to expand production for beet sugar in 2005. The new production line should allow us to produce up to 300 tons to meet growing demand for low calorie natural sweetener worldwide. Our beet production accounts for about 16% of worldwide production now and we expect to increase our market share worldwide to 30% upon the completion of our new production line."
