MALMO, Sweden, Nov. 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca is expanding its collaboration with IPWireless to become, together with its partner Wireless System Integration (WSI), the world's first TDD Design Centre. Teleca will thereby also become the development services partner of IPWireless for new products based on the UMTS TDD standard. IPWireless will provide technology that will enable Teleca to develop and enhance UMTS TDD devices for customers.
Teleca has been collaborating with IPWireless during the development of the first generations of UMTS TDD systems. Teleca expects the new agreement to enable it to expand its development of products based on the UMTS TDD standard, for example, handsets, personal mobile access points, and networked music players.
UMTS TDD is a global 3GPP standard and commercial TDD networks have already been launched in many countries, including Australia, Germany, United Kingdom and United States. IPWireless will continue to focus on developing TDD technology in collaboration with Teleca to help its customers develop new products based on the standard.
The first product to emerge from the new Teleca TDD Design Centre will integrate UMTS TDD, 802.11 (wireless LAN) and Bluetooth(R) in a slim battery-powered pocket-sized device that will enable users to create their own local wireless networks and internet access points using UMTS TDD as mobile backhaul.
``Everyone who wants to develop new products based on the TDD standard will benefit from Teleca's new TDD Design Centre. I'm convinced that Teleca's leading product and system development expertise and its global presence will result in a range of new exciting products that will increase the value of operators' UMTS TDD networks," says Chris Gilbert, CEO of IPWireless.
``The demand for new mobile broadband products based on this interesting technology is rising all the time. We're looking forward to working with IPWireless and their customers. Together we will develop the UMTS TDD market to help operators deliver the mobile broadband services their customers are asking for," says Markus Enholm, Vice President of Teleca System Design and head of Teleca's TDD Design Centre.
