TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (Pink Sheets:SWNM) is pleased to announce that it has begun investigating the possibility of entering the very large market for urine testing of animals with its on-site testing kit, which it considers to be readily adaptable for animal testing.
Animal Testing - A Huge and Lucrative Market
Animal urine testing - canine, feline, porcine, equine - for all manner of diseases and health problems are almost too numerous to count. In some instances, on-the-spot diagnosis is possible, while many other tests must be analyzed in the laboratory. SWMS will explore the extent to which its Labguard Accucheck(tm) kits may be used to facilitate the extremely wide variety of animal tests that are currently used to detect and/or diagnose many animal diseases and conditions.
Much More Than a Medical Diagnostic Method
In the United States, equine drug testing may well account for more on-site urine sampling than is carried out for all human drug screening, and certainly exceeds equine urine sampling for disease diagnosis by an overwhelming margin.
Unscrupulous racehorse owners, trainers, (certainly in a small minority) and others sometimes attempt to influence a horse's performance, and thus the outcome of a race - on which hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars are wagered - through the illegal/illicit administering of a wide range of performance enhancing (and degrading) substances to the horse. The list of such substances is long and ever changing. To combat this illegal activity, two or three, and sometimes more than three horses, are submitted to 'drug' screening via urine sampling immediately following the race. At every thoroughbred, standard-bred, and quarter horse racetrack across North America, at least 2 horses from every race, every day, are led back to the 'testing barn' for urinalysis.
Southwestern Medical Has The Solution
The Company's proprietary Labguard Accucheck(tm) on-site collection & diagnostic testing technology represents a revolutionary approach that ensures greater safety and convenience for diagnostic testing administrators at an attractive, market-competitive price. Currently in the final prototype stage, Labguard Accucheck(tm) has already attracted expressions of strong interest from several major medical-device distribution companies, both in the U.S. and abroad. Numerous applications of the Labguard Accucheck(tm) to address specific market needs, such as non-invasive drug screening, HIV testing, etc. are currently in the design, prototype and/or testing stages.
