NEW YORK, Feb. 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Globix Corporation (OTCBB:GBXX), a leading provider of application, media and infrastructure management services, has helped Smithsonian Magazine take its 2nd Annual Photo Contest online - a competition open to amateur photographers, 18 years or older.
This year, with the assistance of Globix, Smithsonian Magazine added an online component to its photo contest. Globix provided scalable web infrastructure support, disc array, backup and security services. This enabled Smithsonian Magazine to make photo submission as well as judging easier and has resulted in a record response of over 22,000 online entries.
"Last year's photo contest greatly exceeded our expectations, generating over 10,000 entries. This response created an unexpected challenge for the judges - the near impossible task of sifting through the massive quantity of hard copy submissions to select the 50 finalists," said Michelle McMahon of Smithsonian Magazine. "By taking the photo contest online, we needed an Internet provider that was able to help us improve the overall management of the photo contest. With its proven hosting capabilities, team of experts and our existing relationship, we naturally went to Globix."
"Globix is more than just a technology provider. We strive to be a true partner to many of our clients, such as Smithsonian Magazine and many top cultural institutions. We take a consultative approach to understand our customer's vision, goals and objectives in order to deliver a tailored solution to meet their short- and long-term business needs," said Pete Stevenson, CEO of Globix. "We're pleased the contest ran smoothly and was once again a success. We look forward to continuing to support Smithsonian Magazine."
The photo contest is now closed. The category finalists will be posted on the magazine's website on April 1st, 2005. Winning photographs and selected finalists will be published in a summer issue of the magazine. Category winners will be awarded $1,000 and additional non-cash prizes. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid, eight-day Smithsonian Journeys cruise for two to Alaska in late July 2005 or the cash equivalent.
