DETROIT, June 9, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Marygrove College, in partnership with Lawrence Technological University, will offer the first Master of Education degree in Educational Technology (M.Ed in EdTech), beginning in Fall 2005.
Dr. Susan Claiborne, assistant professor and coordinator of Educational Technology, explained, "The Masters of Education in Educational Technology is a means for teachers to improve their teaching skills at the same time they improve learning for their K-12 students through the use of educational technology. The Student-Centered Classroom, while still revolutionary to some, is the wave of teaching in the 21st Century. Instead of 'old school' teaching methods where the instructor is the center of the classroom and the disseminator of information, tomorrow's students will be much more self-directed, research-savvy and advanced users of information-age tools."
A recognized leader in preparing educational professionals and distance learning, Marygrove has partnered with Lawrence Technological University, the region's leader in technology-based professional education, to offer teachers the advanced-level information-age tools and teaching methods.
As a sub-set to the full Master's degree, certified teachers may elect to receive the State of Michigan endorsement, the NP. Also, students enrolled in the Master of Education degree now have another option to complete a cognate in Educational Technology.
The Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education "encourages faculty in all disciplines at every level to examine opportunities to rethink curricular organization and content, including new interdisciplinary approaches, as well as for revolutionizing teaching techniques."
A Marygrove student enrolled in the M.Ed in EdTech will complete some of the required course work at Lawrence Tech and vice versa. Each school will draw on its strengths to present specialized course work.
