EVENT and
PHOTO OP: The Columbus Citizens Foundation will announce the
84 recipients - 65 from the Tri-State area - of the
Foundation's 2005 College Scholarship Program. Many
of the students will be present at the event and
available for interviews and photographs.
DETAILS: Higher education will become a reality for 84 students
from around the country who have been selected to
receive four-year scholarships from the Columbus
Citizens Foundation. The students are from New York
(57), including The Bronx: 6; Brooklyn: 10;
Manhattan: 1; Queens: 15; Staten Island: 7;
Westchester: 5; and Nassau: 4 and from the states of
New Jersey (8), and the states of Pennsylvania (4),
North Carolina (2); Texas (2), Delaware, Florida,
Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri,
Mississippi, Ohio, Rhode Island and Tennessee (1 each).
The students will be attending a wide range of liberal
arts, polytechnic and music institutions.
Recipients are of Italian descent and were chosen
based on financial need, academic achievement and
commitment to their communities.
The Columbus Citizens Foundation, best known for
organizing New York City's Columbus Day Parade,
supports cultural and educational programs, including
grants and scholarships for elementary school, high
school and college students. In 2005, the Foundation
is awarding $2.1 million in grants and scholarships
to 615 students.
