PHILADELPHIA, June 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Cat lovers, concerned citizens, and animal welfare advocates from across the city of Philadelphia are invited to gather on Tuesday, June 20th at the Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel, to learn more about how to help stray and feral cats.

The 6 P.M. meeting will include a presentation by Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association's director, Tara Derby-Perrin about the state of cats in the city today and about her hopes and plans for their future. Becky Robinson, national director of Alley Cat Allies, the national clearinghouse for information on feral cats, will speak about the most effective way to manage cat populations and how individuals can get involved and find the best way they can help.
"We are so excited about this meeting," said Anne Trinkle, president of the Alliance for Philadelphia's Animals. "We hope to meet many new people who care about cats and want to learn more about what can be done to help them. So we're encouraging cat lovers to join us on the 20th."
"Philadelphia has already made some terrific strides toward their goal of becoming a no-kill city, but there are still a great many stray and feral cats in the city in need of help," added Becky Robinson of Alley Cat Allies. "We hope this meeting will provide a way for people to hear about how they can help, and inspire more people to get involved in the rewarding work of helping animals."
The meeting is sponsored by Alley Cat Allies, the nation's leading feral cat advocacy organization, along with the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association (PACCA), the Alliance for Philadelphia's Animals, and the Philadelphia Community Cats Council. The meeting is free of charge, and interested individuals are welcome to attend.
