Braintech Receives Order From ABB for Its Software to be Used at a Toyota Engine Plant

New Solution Allows Toyota for the First Time to Fully Automate the Handling of Assembled Engines

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Braintech, Inc. (OTCBB:BRHI), a leading provider of Vision Guided Robotic ("VGR") software, announced today that it has received an order for its eVF(tm) software from global robotics giant ABB, for use in the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia Plant.

eVF, as an integral part of ABB's new TrueView(tm) product line, helps robots "see" what they're doing, which greatly improves and extends a robot's capabilities. For this order, TrueView systems fully automate the transfer of completed engines from the final assembly line to the engine testing line.

Previously performed by line workers (with the assistance of hoists), this is the first use of vision guided robots handling fully assembled engines. A TrueView system will determine the location of the engine prior to picking it up, as well as the location of the pallet on which it is to be placed. It will also process an image of the engine as it resides in the robot gripper, to ensure a successful and accurate pick by the robot.

Bob Welch, Toyota's Assistant Manager of Production Engineering, emphasizes that, "The beauty of the ABB solution is that it is 3D vision with one camera, so the complexity to the user is minimal, and you don't have a two-camera system that you're trying to keep calibrated. In addition to TrueView's low maintenance, automating this cell also addresses ergonomic and safety concerns inherent in handling objects of significant weight and proportion."

Commenting, Vice President and General Manager of ABB's Robot Automation, Jerry Osborn stated, "Braintech's eVF software allows us to quickly build reliable, cost effective TrueView systems which meet our customers' expanding uses for VGR automation. Having recently announced our intention to make TrueView our global standard for VGR, we plan on marketing our family of TrueView systems to other facilities around the world."
