NEW YORK, June 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Hundreds of trained Noah's Wish volunteers have been put on alert as floodwaters continue to rise in several rain-soaked East Coast states. All volunteers in Region 4 (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Pennsylvania) are standing by to assist with animal rescue. Noah's Wish staff and volunteer coordinators are in communication with local shelters in areas hardest-hit and if assistance is required, a disaster response team will be mobilized.
The singular mission of Noah's Wish is to save the lives of animals in disasters -- by rescuing, sheltering and caring for animals during disasters and by preparing individuals, organizations and communities through education and training.
Noah's Wish is reminding pet owners that it is essential to bring their animals with them if forced to evacuate. If they absolutely can not bring their pets, it is important to leave enough food and water for several days. Always make sure that pets have an identification tag with a working phone number on it.
Pet owners need to have an emergency supply kit prepared for their animals including:
-- A three-day supply of food and fresh drinking water
-- Bowls for food or water
-- Extra collars, harnesses, leashes and a muzzle
-- A carrier or crate large enough to house the animal for several
days
-- Bedding, towels and favorite toys
-- Copies of pet's medical and vaccination records and a recent photo
of your pet
-- Any medications your pet requires
-- First aid kit, including bandaging materials, antiseptic ointment
and latex gloves
