Universal Detection Technology Comments on Foiled Terrorist Plot in the U.K.

Anthrax Scare in NY City Hints of National Vulnerabilities

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB:UDTT) (www.udetection.com) (FWB:PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bio-terrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that the Company is encouraged by the effective foiling of the terrorist plot in the U.K. Terrorists are determined to attack the U.S. and its allies with all in their power and effective security procedures are believed by UDTT to be the most effective counter measure against such acts of violence. The threat level of the U.K. was raised from "severe" to "critical" raising the awareness of a possible attack. The U.S. government also raised the threat level to "high," causing delays around the world.

In a separate incident, The New York Post reported today that there was an anthrax scare at the Brooklyn Police Department Headquarters. Officers scanning mail behind the building saw powder fall from the envelope, opened it, and realized it was filled with a white powdery substance. Although the powder was not anthrax, the note in the envelope read "the next time it will be anthrax." In the event of a biological threat the BSM-2000, UDT's early warning anthrax device, could be deployed at various locations to provide early and accurate information about the nature of the contaminants. The technology could easily reveal a false alarm by measuring changes in levels of airborne bacterial spores. It could be placed in office buildings, airports, and post offices providing the security needed in such a situation.

"We have developed our bacterial spore monitors (BSM-2000) to provide first line of defense against potential anthrax attacks. In high threat situations involving white powder scares, a very efficient approach to determining the validity of the threat would be to immediately study the levels of airborne endospores. If such levels are unchanged the white powder in question cannot be anthrax and the scare can be called off," said Nima Montazeri, UDTT's Vice President of Strategic Development.
