Robeco introduces Robeco Clean Tech Certificate for private investors

Depletion of natural resources and changes in the climate are issues which are currently receiving much attention. The growing world population is making increasingly larger demands on the world's natural resources, while the earth's resources are not inexhaustible. Clean technology provides solutions to these problems.

The market for clean and sustainable technology is growing rapidly. The number of new, promising technologies is also growing rapidly. The reason for this trend lies in the increasing shortages of certain commodities, which lead to higher prices. Furthermore, government standards to prevent environmental pollution are becoming ever stricter. This has resulted in great demand for new, alternative energy sources and more efficient ways to use commodities. The technologies which help to realize this are referred to as 'clean tech'.

Robeco Clean Tech Certificate gives investors the opportunity to invest indirectly in unlisted companies active in the field of clean technology. Because most of these technologies are being developed by unlisted companies, private equity is the best method to benefit from innovation and the resulting creation of value. Private-equity funds are usually the first to invest in these companies, allowing investors to fully benefit from developments in the fast-growing clean-tech segment.

The companies in which the fund invests concentrate on the efficient use of energy sources and the development of alternative forms of energy creation, but they also focus on the development of specific technologies, products and services that limit pollution, waste and the use of natural resources. "At present there is a great need for everyone to act in a sustainable way. Clean technology is vital for the future and will benefit everyone in the end, both mankind and the earth", says Robeco CEO, George Möller.

The underlying fund, Robeco Clean Tech Private Equity II, is only available to institutional investors. Robeco Clean Tech Certificate now also gives private investors access to the clean-tech private-equity segment. The underlying fund is managed by Robeco Alternative Investments' experienced and dedicated private-equity team. Rabobank's Corporate Social Responsibility division will act as adviser in the field of clean tech. The fund will not invest directly in companies, but will invest in other private-equity funds. The fund will spread its investments over North America (10%-70%), Europe (20%-50%) and other regions (0%-20%). The return on this Certificate is linked to the return on Robeco's underlying institutional clean-tech fund.
