MOSCOW, Jan. 11, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- NUCON-RF, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NNRF) today announced it has signed a Letter of Intent with the International Center of Environmental Security (ICES) of the Ministry of Nuclear Energy of Russia to supply nuclear safety technologies, products and equipment for a major international decommissioning project in Northwestern Russia.
First, the parties will evaluate potential sites in the Russian Federation, including Sayda Bay and other sites in the Pacific region of Russia, for the application of FEECOM/BIECOM -- moldable, non-toxic polymer-based nuclear energy shielding materials, owned by NUCON-RF, engineered to replace the toxic lead walls in nuclear reactors, medical facilities and other buildings. Sayda Bay, a new facility still under construction, is beginning to be used for storing hulls and reactor compartments from nuclear submarines.
Second, NUCON-RF will use its silicon-geopolymer material, NuCap(tm), for the decontamination of Andreyeva Bay, a former service and refueling facility for Soviet-era submarines. NuCap(tm) would be used on site for the suppression of radioactive dust, the containment of radioactive sludge and radioactive fuel pieces, and for general containment of radioactive floors and walls. This containment, once complete, would increase safety for construction personnel. NUCON-RF holds an exclusive agent license for NuCap(tm) in the Russian Federation and other CIS Countries from Global Matrechs, Inc.
Third, NuCap(tm) will be evaluated for the encapsulation and protection of the thousands of corroding iron drums containing radioactive wastes.
Finally, NuCap(tm) will be evaluated for the stabilization and encapsulation of reservoirs with toxic wastes.
NUCON-RF and ICES agreed to make a joint scientific effort to support the use of these technologies and materials in the field.
