Exterro Adopts Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Framework for Workflow Processes Related to Discovery Management
Electronic Discovery Reference Model Framework and Metrics Establish Standards for E-Discovery Market
| Quelle: Exterro
LAKE OSWEGO, OR -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 23, 2007 -- Exterro, a leading provider of advanced
workflow technology to the legal industry, announced it has joined the
Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project and has already adopted
both the EDRM model framework and Metrics in its primary workflow model in
Exterro Fusion, the legal industry's first integrated workflow platform for
discovery management.
The EDRM framework provides the legal industry with a strong blueprint,
mapping the entire E-Discovery process from initial identification of
relevant content to the final presentation of significant evidence. EDRM
Metrics provides guidelines for how to measure associated costs, time and
volumes in each stage of the discovery process: workflow identification,
preservation, collection, processing, review, analysis, and production.
"In joining the EDRM Project, Exterro executives bring both the experience
and expertise that the project needs," said George Socha, industry analyst
and co-creator of the EDRM Project. "They are able to take their background
in business process management and workflow from other industries and apply
it to the discovery market, playing a fundamental role in how the legal
community applies workflow to the discovery process. We're excited that
they have adopted the EDRM framework and metrics to their solution."
Organized by Independent consultants George Socha (Socha Consulting, LLC)
and Tom Gelbmann (Gelbmann & Associates), the Electronic Discovery
Reference Model Framework Project is building standards and guidelines in
the electronic discovery market. Starting with the original EDRM project
in May 2005, the project now has over 108 member organizations include
leading providers of electronic discovery related products and services,
prominent law firms, and corporate counsel. Following the development of
the Electronic Discovery Reference Model, the EDRM Metrics and the EDRM XML
projects in 2006-2007, focused on improving consumers' and providers'
ability to monitor and facilitate the e-discovery process. The 2007-2008
EDRM projects include EDRM Evergreen, keeping the Model current and
relevant; EDRM Metrics 2 and EDRM XML 2, continuing to refine and enhance
previous efforts; and a Code of Conduct for the electronic discovery
industry.
Exterro Fusion is a comprehensive platform for the automation of workflow
around the eDiscovery process. It was designed to help legal teams take
control of the litigation and discovery processes, by providing centralized
control that supports the litigation support management process. By using
the EDRM model and metrics in Fusion, drawn from integration with existing
software used in discovery, such as review tools, Fusion extends the value
to counsel in weighing options related to approach, costs and strategies.
"The EDRM model framework Model and its metrics provide the standard that
both vendors and law firms use in the e-discovery process," said David
Haines, EVP of Strategy and Development, of Exterro. "They provide a clear
depiction of the necessary steps of electronic discovery and production and
give us a model that we know will be used in the future."

About EDRM:
Launched in 2005, the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project
was created to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the
electronic discovery market -- a problem identified in the 2003 and 2004
Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery surveys as a major concern for vendors
and consumers alike. The completed reference model provides a common,
flexible, and extensible framework for the development, selection,
evaluation and use of electronic discovery products and services.
