Sempra Energy Awards 13 Baja California Students SDSU Scholarships


SAN DIEGO, June 29, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) today awarded 13 students from Baja California scholarships to the San Diego State University (SDSU) International Business Leadership Program. This innovative program supports Baja California's future business leaders as they pursue business projects in their local communities.

A special ceremony was held at Sempra Energy's San Diego headquarters today. Dr. Gail Naughton, dean of SDSU's College of Business Administration, and Michael Morgan, vice president of international affairs for Sempra Energy, presented the scholarships to the deserving students.

"Many of our scholarship winners already are working on plans to open businesses or raise funds for projects in their hometowns," said Morgan. "This important program recognizes Baja California as a key international gateway for commerce, attracting global companies."

A leader in multiple degree programs, SDSU offers dual and triple International Business degree programs, in which students spend a minimum of one-and-a-half years of study each in the United States and in Mexico for the MEXUS program, similar semesters in Chile, Mexico and the United States for the PanAmerica program and Canada, United States and Mexico for the CaMexUS program. The students were selected based on their academic qualifications, career goals, demonstrated leadership skills and intent to live and work in Baja California after graduation.
