SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - March 7, 2008) - Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, an active
participant in the
American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) for over 25 years, today was named Academy
First Vice President during the organization's 75th Annual Meeting in San
Francisco.
As a practicing orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Zuckerman realizes the importance
of addressing the needs of his colleagues. In his role as First Vice
President, he will focus on making an impact on Academy membership.
"Balancing the needs, issues and concerns of our members is of utmost
importance to me," Zuckerman said. "I want our Fellows to recognize the
Academy as the 'go to' resource for not only education, research and
advocacy but for practice management also."
A graduate of Cornell University in New York and the Medical College of
Wisconsin, Dr. Zuckerman completed his internship and residency at the
University of Washington, and a fellowship at Harvard's Brigham and Women's
Hospital, in addition to duties as a visiting clinician in shoulder surgery
at the Mayo Clinic. Currently, Dr. Zuckerman is chairman of the Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and the Walter
A.L. Thompson professor of orthopaedic surgery at NYU School of Medicine.
Dr. Zuckerman specializes in shoulder surgery and hip and knee
replacements.
Dr. Zuckerman added, "The AAOS is a dynamic and innovative organization
that responds quickly to any challenges and issues that may arise. I have
great respect for all of my fellow members who volunteer their time to make
the AAOS a leader among medical associations. Our dedicated staff
