TeraRecon Touches the Enterprise With iNtuition(TM) in Vienna

VIENNA, AUSTRIA--(Marketwire - March 9, 2008) - TeraRecon, Inc. (www.terarecon.com), a
leader in advanced imaging processing technology and 3D visualization
solutions, was the only company to achieve "Workstation Face-off" tasks
using client-server technology at the 2008 European Congress of Radiology,
held in Vienna, Austria, and at the same time, the only company to
demonstrate technology for enterprise-friendly, browser-based, wide
distribution of interactive 3D results.
The workstation face-off challenged all major vendors of advanced 3D image
processing technologies to demonstrate quantitative analysis and
interpretation on two challenging clinical cases, including a Cardiac CT
examination and a CT Colon examination, within specific time limits.
Operating Aquarius iNtuition for TeraRecon, Dr. Christopher Herzog, Chief
of Radiology at the Red Cross Clinic in Munich, Germany, demonstrated
consistent measurements leading to the same clinical outcome as all other
vendors' products except one, and was the only face-off participant to
utilize thin-client advanced visualization technology for the challenge.
TeraRecon's evaluation of the CT Colon examination also featured the fewest
number of false-positive findings related to automatic detection.
All other participants used the stand-alone, thick-client workstations
provided with the major CT modalities available for purchase today, while
TeraRecon demonstrated its iNtuitive full cardiac workflow using the new
Aquarius iNtuition client software to complete all tasks in less than 3/4
of the available time, allowing demonstration of delivery of the results as
an interactive, HIPAA-compliant, browser-based package utilizing only
JavaScript technology, and hence deliverable to a very wide number of
recipients in the healthcare enterprise without requiring any
administrative privileges on the client side to access this review tool.
This ability to deliver such an interactive 3D package with key findings
and relevant images is unique to TeraRecon and received much interest at
the ECR meeting after demonstration during the face-off.
"It is an indication that advanced visualization has truly come of age,
since it is no longer enough simply to provide rapid and accurate
interpretation tools for large multi-slice MDCT examinations," said Robert
Taylor, Ph.D., president and chief operating officer of TeraRecon. "Today,
it is really necessary to provide ubiquitous access to the interpretation
tools without any compromise on performance or functionality, and to
further provide viable technologies to distribute the results of such
interpretation to the downstream users of CT technology -- referring
physicians, surgeons, and ultimately, the patients themselves in the
context of a consultation with their physician. The Aquarius iNtuition
client-server technology demonstrated so effectively at the ECR face-off
yesterday clearly sets TeraRecon apart from the competition both in the
company's commitment to enterprise-wide solutions for advanced
visualization, and the maturity and capability of the company's technology.
This meeting has also clearly demonstrated the relevance of this
interpretation paradigm in the context of European radiology and we look
forward to continuing development of these technologies as they are adopted
more widely in European healthcare institutions and beyond."
