BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 31, 2008) - Cooley Godward
Kronish LLP announced today that Kimberley J. ("Kim") Kaplan-Gross has
joined the Firm as a partner in the Venture Capital group. She will be
based in Cooley's Boston office, which has tripled in size since its
opening in July 2007. Kaplan-Gross was previously a partner with DLA
Piper in Boston.
"Kim is an important addition to our national fund formation practice and
we're confident her presence will be a driving force behind the group's
continued expansion," said Craig Dauchy, head of Cooley's Venture Capital
group. "Her arrival further strengthens Cooley's leadership in fund
formation and venture capital and enables us to better serve these clients
based in the region."
"Cooley's leadership and preeminence in venture capital and private equity
fund formation is unparalleled and I am incredibly excited to join the Firm
and be a part of the practice, helping expand Cooley's presence in the New
England market," said Kaplan-Gross.
Kaplan-Gross represents international and domestic private investment firms
in fund formation, secondary transactions, management and governance issues
and investment adviser regulatory matters. She represents venture capital,
buyout and other direct private equity funds, as well as primary and
secondary funds-of-funds. In fundraising, she advises fund sponsors on
legal structuring matters, guides them in market positioning and setting
proposed terms and conditions, and leads their investor negotiations. In
addition, Kaplan-Gross represents institutional investors in their
investments in private equity funds.
Kaplan-Gross earned her B.S. in 1989 from Boston University and her J.D.
cum laude from University of Miami Law School in 1994, where she was the
Senior Articles Editor of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. She is a
frequent presenter at conferences focused on the private equity industry.
Cooley's Boston office opened in July 2007 and has grown from 10 to 30
lawyers with market-leading expertise in emerging and public companies,
life sciences, venture and private equity fund representation, mergers and
acquisitions, intellectual property and commercial litigation.
"Since opening our doors in Boston last summer, we have been extremely
well-received by the market and have had tremendous success attracting
leading lawyers like Kim, as well as former U.S. Attorney for
Massachusetts, Don Stern, who joined the Firm earlier this month," said
John Hession,
partner-in-charge of Cooley's Boston office. "Kim is a savvy and
experienced practitioner whose arrival will only further the momentum that
Cooley has enjoyed since arriving in Boston last July."
