Power Integrations CEO to Address International Standby Power Conference

Presentation to Highlight Innovative Technologies for Reducing Power Consumption in Electronic Products

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 1, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Power Integrations (Nasdaq:POWI), the leader in high-voltage analog integrated circuits for power conversion and the inventor of EcoSmart(r) energy-efficiency technology, announced today that Balu Balakrishnan, the company's president and CEO, has been invited to address the International Conference on Standby Power on April 3, 2008 in New Delhi, India. Organized and hosted by the Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the International Energy Agency, the conference brings together policy makers, scientists, manufacturers and technology providers from around the world to discuss the status of ongoing efforts to limit standby usage.

Standby power, the power used when an electronic product is in its lowest-power mode, has been estimated to account for as much as ten percent of residential electricity consumption in OECD countries. In his presentation, Mr. Balakrishnan will address the importance of AC-DC power supply efficiency at light loads as a critical factor in reducing this waste. He will highlight innovations such as Power Integrations' EcoSmart technology, which utilizes multi-mode PWM and digital ON/OFF control schemes to provide extremely high, constant efficiency across a product's entire load range, including light loads.

"Even the most intelligently designed electronic products can be very wasteful if their power supplies are inefficient at light loads," said Mr. Balakrishnan. "Fortunately, thanks to innovations like our EcoSmart technology, high standby efficiency is available today at no incremental cost to the manufacturer or the consumer.

"Improving the efficiency of electronic products is low-hanging fruit in the increasingly urgent drive to reduce carbon emissions, and substantial savings are already being achieved," continued Balakrishnan. "The International Conference on Standby Power is a valuable forum for the global energy-efficiency community to share best practices and coalesce around standards and strategies in order to accelerate the savings."

Since 1998, Power Integrations has sold more than two billion chips with EcoSmart technology, saving consumers and businesses an estimated $2.8 billion on their electricity bills and preventing more than an estimated 18 million tons of CO2 emissions. The company's chips can be found in all manner of electronic products, including computer and A/V equipment, home appliances, cellphone chargers, LED lighting fixtures, utility meters and many more.
