SWECO to evaluate EU funds SWECO has been commissioned by Nutek to carry out a large-scale study. Over the next few years, allocation of the EU Structural Funds will be subject to in-depth scrutiny. Sweden has been granted approximately SEK 15 billion in structural funds for the period 2007-2013. Around SEK 13 billion of this will be invested in boosting regional competitiveness and employment, and it is these billions SWECO Eurofutures has now been commissioned to review. In Sweden, responsibility for informing about grant opportunities and processing applications has been assigned to Nutek, the European Social Fund in Sweden and eight regional “partnerships”. SWECO's task is to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of this process. Among other things, SWECO Eurofutures will make comparisons between regions to identify opportunities for improvement during the course of the programme. ”We have carried out similar studies on the use of EU funds, but this is one of the largest assignments we have ever been contracted for,” says Stig Björne, President of SWECO Eurofutures. Competition for the contract, worth an estimated EUR 430,000, was fierce. SWECO Eurofutures, part of the SWECO Group since February 2007, is specialised in evaluation, studies, analysis and strategy.
