CORTE MADERA, CA--(Marketwire - August 12, 2008) - Fabkins (www.fabkins.com), a provider of
cloth napkins for kids, today announced that in its first year of business
they've sold over 12,000 napkins through online, retail, and school event
sales. As the first-to-market manufacturer of a line of cloth napkins made
just for children, Fabkins is making this back-to-school season more fun
and environmentally friendly.
Fabkins are soft and durable everyday kids' cloth napkins available in an
array of bright colors and playful designs. Sized for little laps and
lunchboxes, Fabkins come in packs of five in eight different themes that
reflect kids' interests, such as "Prima Ballerina," "Sports Fan," "Beach
Bound," "African Safari," "Fruit Salad," "Garden Friends" and the two
newest designs, "Flower Power" and "Extreme Sports."
It has been estimated that on average a school-age child using a disposable
lunch generates 67 pounds of waste per school year (wastefreelunches.org).
Reducing paper waste by using fabric napkins will help bring down that
number. In fact, Elizabeth Rogers, co-author of "The Green Book: The
Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time," stated that
"If we all gave up one [paper] napkin a day, we could save a billion pounds
of paper waste from going to landfills [each] year."
Switching from paper to cloth napkins not only helps to save the
environment, it can also help families save money. According to National
Geographic's Green Guide magazine, families can save $1.68 per week
replacing paper napkins with cloth ones.
Founders Joyce Raffo and Paige Rodgers launched Fabkins in August 2007
after a day of shopping for waste-free lunch products left them frustrated
by the lack of kid-friendly cloth napkins available. Ultimately they
decided to create their own, and Fabkins was born.
Although packing a trash-free school lunch was the inspiration, Fabkins
have many other uses. "Our customers also use Fabkins with meals at home,
as a unique birthday present, hostess gift, or party favor, for a playtime
picnic or tea party, and on the go," commented co-founder Paige Rodgers.
Rodgers and Raffo are excited about their first year success and look
forward to another great year ahead. "We'll be adding additional retailers,
introducing new designs, and working with more schools nationwide," said
Raffo.
