COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today congratulated Smart Telecom on the launch of its CDMA2000(r) 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) network in Indonesia. The upgraded network boasts peak data rates of 3.1 megabits per second enabling a large selection of advanced mobile broadband services offered under the consumer brand name "JUMP" in several regions of Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok and Ciburbur.
"The CDG commends Smart Telecom for completing this important evolutionary network upgrade," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "Bringing high-speed mobile broadband connectivity to Jakarta, in particular, provides the nation with a tremendous productivity tool for businesses and consumers alike. Smart Telecom is leading the way in the highly-competitive mobile market in Indonesia, providing an excellent showcase of EV-DO's advanced capabilities with its JUMP services."
With more the 16.3 million subscribers in the region, Indonesia is one of the world's most rapidly-growing CDMA2000 markets. CDMA has become the technology of choice for emerging markets such as Indonesia, enabling operators to deliver high-quality voice communications and high-speed broadband Internet access cost-effectively. 3G CDMA's lower total cost of ownership and competitive handset pricing enable operators to deliver these services affordably and to penetrate markets that have comparatively limited purchasing power.
