DLNA Approves MoCA for Inclusion in Its Networked Device Interoperability Guidelines

SAN RAMON, Calif., Dec. 16, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has approved the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) technology standard for incorporation into the next version of its Networked Device Interoperability Guidelines, scheduled for release in early 2009.

DLNA and the organization's Interoperability Guidelines are recognized throughout the industry for successfully uniting various consumer electronics, personal computer (PC) and mobile device technologies and standards into a cohesive home networking environment. Network operators and consumers are now assured that new services and products introduced into the home can be seamlessly connected to create high-quality entertainment experiences.

MoCA joins Wi-Fi and Ethernet as the only LAN technology standards approved for inclusion in the DLNA Interoperability Guidelines.

"At the end of the day, home entertainment networking is all about sharing and distributing content simply and easily," said Charles Cerino, MoCA president. "DLNA, like MoCA, is an enabling organization that ensures home entertainment network interoperability for the consumer."

"MoCA and DLNA are complementary efforts. MoCA's membership and inclusion in the next version of the DLNA Interoperability Guidelines provide additional means for helping consumers transfer digital content simply throughout the digital home network," said Scott Smyers, president and chairman of DLNA.

"Wi-Fi, MoCA and Ethernet will coexist in connected home networks to deliver a better experience for service providers and consumers, and DLNA's Interoperability Guidelines will now help ensure this coexistence is seamless," said Wi-Fi Alliance Executive Director, Edgar Figueroa.

The DLNA Networked Device Interoperability Guidelines are use-case driven and specify the interoperable building blocks available for product development and service offerings that address digital content connectivity in and around the home.
