NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 9, 2009) - The extraordinary ongoing chapters of a
five-decade career illustrate the unending public demand for the music of
American rock-and-roll heroes FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS.
The singular body of work of the classic vocal group The Four Seasons; the
compelling power of their life stories; and the timeless cultural presence
of lead singer Frankie Valli's iconic voice are all continuing to drive
ticket sales the world over, despite the deepening economic recession.
Responding to this popular demand, Valli and The Four Seasons have extended
their national solo tour schedule well into the fall of 2009.
Just this weekend, the London production of the hit musical Jersey Boys,
the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, was honored at the
prestigious Olivier Awards as BEST NEW MUSICAL of the year. The Tony
Award-winning Broadway production is now in its fourth year of sell-out
shows: productions are currently running in Chicago, Las Vegas, and
Toronto, with a touring company playing nationally; and an opening in
Australia is scheduled for July 2009.
In the atmosphere of tightening money over the last two years, music fans
budgeting their concert spending have noticeably turned to the greatest and
most reliable names in rock history, such as Tina Turner, Madonna, the
Eagles, AC/DC, Neil Diamond, The Police and Rod Stewart.
Transcending early childhood poverty in the tough streets of Newark, New
Jersey to achieve global success as recording artists, Frankie Valli and
the Four Seasons have charted internationally in five consecutive decades.
Like a very few visionary others of that era (Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield
among them) Frankie Valli, along with his groupmate and lifelong partner,
the platinum songwriter and producer Bob Gaudio, astutely re-invested their
earnings back into the group, purchasing and retaining ownership of their
work at every opportunity -- most famously, using $4000 to buy back from
Motown Records the master tape of the 1975 No.1 Valli solo smash, "My Eyes
Adored You." The Four Seasons staged one chart revival after another,
decade after decade, until the smash musical Jersey Boys put the entire
story onstage in rousing, foot-stomping, standing-ovation style.
In what would be the twilight of most careers, the opening of Jersey Boys
on Broadway and a much-praised recurring role by Frankie Valli highlighting
the later seasons of the long-running HBO drama The Sopranos launched a new
career cycle for this iconic American group. The London success of Jersey
Boys was foretold in part by the 2007 U.K. Top 40 re-charting of the
40-year-old original Four Seasons song "Beggin'" after months of heavy club
play. A faithful rap cover of the song by Norwegian hip-hop act Madcon hit
No. 1 in several European territories in 2008, and the same version
re-entered the U.K. Top 40 last week, adding two weeks so far to its
initial 29-week British chart run last year, when it peaked at No. 5.
Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons will continue to tour throughout the
year. His current Universal Motown CD, Romancing the '60s, entered the
Billboard Top 200 chart of national best-sellers, 45 years to the week of
The Four Seasons' first charting in 1962.
